Thank you Duo!

Thanks to all those who attended the talk yesterday at Duo.  Huge thank you to owners Stephanie Bonin and Keith Arnold for providing the space and the delicious baked goods and coffee!

For those who weren't able to attend, here are a few integrative references that you may find useful:

Treatment Alternatives for Children, Lawrence Rosen, M.D.  This was just published this year and is a user friendly reference for parents.  It goes through common ailments in kids and talks about conventional and more natural options for treatment.  I just got my copy last week at the Tattered Cover.  Dr. Rosen is a well known integrative pediatician. He uses many of the same approaches that I recommend for common ailments.

www.drgreene.com ...Dr. Alan Greene is a pediatrician that I trained with at Stanford during my residency.  He was one of the first pediatricians with an active website.  His site has lots of great, reliable information for parents.  He also wrote a great book called, Raising baby Greene, about raising kids in an environmentally sound way.

There were a few questions about probiotics.  There are many varieties out there.  For infants with gut symptoms, colic or reflux, I recommended considering a product with lactobacillus reuteri like Bio Gaia infant drops.  For kids 4 months or older I like to use Jarrow brand babydophilus for general immune support.  There are other applications for probiotics and those are best taylored to the individual in consultation with one of us.
